KECH, BALOCHISTAN: The rights and freedom of every individual must be respected across the world. The followers of every religion get a chance to perform their religious rituals after much wait and planning. In order to assist Sikh pilgrims that travel to Pakistan for their pilgrimage, the Pakistan Railways made arrangements to bring them from India to attend the Jore Mela at Gurdwara Dera Sahib in Lahore. Unfortunately, the Indian government did not allow the pilgrims from crossing the border. According to a report, as many as 146 Sikh pilgrims were present at Atari railway station to leave for Lahore, but Indian authorities did not allow them to board the train, at the last moment. This is not the first time that Sikhs were prevented from performing their religious rituals. A few years ago, Indian authorities prevented 350 pilgrims from leaving for Pakistan. Given this pattern, we can feel that our authorities always extend a hand of friendship, but the Indian authorities rarely accept it. Pakistan should keep up the positive efforts it is making towards building peace. Hopefully, India will soon realize the importance of peace and respond in kind.
